Experience the Dells without kids. What are the best things to do for adults in Wisconsin Dells?
Wisconsin Dells may be a virtual Vegas for kids, but there is a lot of fun to be had beyond the water parks, go-karts, and roller coasters. There are many enjoyable activities for grown-ups who are traveling without children. Here are some excellent suggestions on what to do in the Dells when the kids aren't along.
Enjoy fine dining at an upscale restaurant. There are a number of great options for a romantic meal and a bottle of wine.
Have a floating meal on the Wisconsin River. Sunset Dinner Cruises are available from Dells Boat Tours and they include a torchlit walk through Witches Gulch. Another option is Captain Soma's Dinner Cruises for a two hour dinner cruise with full bar and waitstaff.
Try dinner and a show together. Options include the Broadway Dinner Theater, Thunder Valley Inn's Farm Dinner Shows, Wisconsin Opry Dinner and Show, or Fab '50s Live!
Or just see a show. The Desert Star Cinema is a traditional movie theater, or go to the drive-in at the Big Sky Twin Drive-In Theatres. Live shows include the famous Tommy Bartlett Show with waterskiing acrobatics, illusions in the Rick Wilcox Magic Theater or the Dells Comedy Club.
View the legendary rock formations along the Wisconsin River via a boat tour, either the energetic ducks or a more traditional double-decker boat.
Visit H.H. Bennett's studio and see the photographs that made the Dells famous. The Wisconsin Historical Society's historic site includes the actual studio of the 19th century photographer.
Go horseback riding at Canyon Creek Stables or take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride through beautiful Lost Canyon.
Golf at some of the fine courses in the area, including Trappers Turn Golf Club, Wild Rock Golf Club, Christmas Mountain, or Spring Brook.
Relax with a day at the spa. Most of the waterpark resorts have spas associated with them. Sundara Inn and Spa, Cameo Spa Salon, Spa del Sol, and Spa Kalahari are a couple of options.
Shop till you drop in the downtown Dells river district or at the new Tanger Outlet Mall by I-94 and Highway 12.
Try your luck at Ho-Chunk bingo and casino just a few minutes south on Highway 12.
Get back to nature by visiting a nearby state park, such as Mirror Lake or Devil's Lake and hike, fish, canoe, bike, or even rock climb.
Stay at a hotel that is not specifically kid-centric. The Hilton Garden Inn just off Highway 12 has two indoor and two outdoor spas, a lobby bar, a fitness center, full breakfast and buffet, and business center.
