Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is an exciting summer music festival with that takes place over an eleven day period on the lake front. Over 700 bands perform during the course of the summer festival. Milwaukee Summerfest, billed as "The World's Largest Music Festival," runs from June 26 to July 6, 2008. Summerfest is open from Noon to Midnight.
Summerfest Grounds on on the Lake Michigan Lakefront, have magnificent views of the lake. The grounds are situated on 75 acres along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
Twelve hours of fun, entertainment and food are offered every day that Summerfest is open. Food stands offer cuisine from favorite local restaurants. Grab a bite and have a seat near one of eleven stages of musical entertainment. Beer stands serve the favorite beverage of "Beer City." Beer is the most visible of the beverages at Summerfest, but wine, soda pop and lemonade are also in plentiful supply.
The main attraction of this feast of the senses is the diverse selection of musical entertainment. There are eleven stages of nearly constant music. Stages include: Marcus Amphitheater, Miller Lite Oasis, U.S. Cellular Connection Stage with Leinenkugel's and FM 102/1, Harley-Davidson Roadhouse with Miller Genuine Draft, M&I Classic Rock Stage with Fiduciary Management - Miller Lite - 97.3 The Brew & My 95.7, Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard Featuring the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame With Miller High Life, Zippo Rock Stage with Miller Lite and 94.1 WJJO, Potawatomi Bingo Casino Stage & Pavilion With Miller High Life and On Milwaukee.com, Cascio Interstate Music Groove Garage with WMSE and the Shepherd Express and Chipotle Rhythm Kitchen.
Most of the entertainment is included in general admission. The Marcus Amphitheater Main Stage highlights the headlining entertainment. There is an additional admission fee to see the headliners at Marcus Amphitheater Main Stage. Tickets for Main Stage entertainment can be purchased on the Summerfest website. Headlining acts perform in the evening. Arriver earlier in the day to take advantage of the entertainment on the ten other stages and to enjoy the varied festival food and drink. There is generally seating at picnic tables near the stages of entertainment, although it may get crowded, making seats hard to find.
Some of Milwaukee's favorite restaurants have booths offering tastes of their cuisine on the Summerfest Grounds. The Ethnic Village, on the north end of the grounds, offers food from Usinger's Wurst Garden, Schwabenhof German Restaurant, Famous Daves, Edwardo's, John Hawk's Pub, King & I, Gus' Mexican Cantina, Mader's German Restaurant, Greek Village and Slim McGinn's.
Saz's Express, a popular favorite is located in the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Children's Area, along with Martino's La Perla, Culver's and Cedar Crest.
The Harley-Davidson Roadhouse with Miller Genuine Draft has booths offering food from Crawdaddy's Charcoal Grill, Venice Club, Wong's Wok, Angelo's Robby's Corn and Hawaiian Shave Ice.
Marketplaces offer merchandise, including novelties, jewelry, clothing, leather and imported items. The merchandise is in covered tents, so it is a good way to get out of the sun and have a look around.
Get a map and schedule on line before going to Summerfest, or pick up a printed schedule after entering the Summerfest gates. The schedules are an invaluable tool to make the most of the day at Summerfest. It is a good idea to check times on the schedule and plan to be at the right stage ahead of time to get a good seat.
General Admission for adults is $15 evenings and weekends. Try to arrive before 4 pm for a discounted admission of $8. Senior admission is $3. Children accompanied by adults are $3. There is parking for a fee at the Summerfest Grounds. Shuttles from outlying areas offer transportation to the grounds for less than the price of parking. For a small party, the shuttles are an economical option that avoids the hassle of traffic congestion at the festival grounds.
