Located less than an hour's drive from the Capital City of Madison, Spring Green is a small town on a river that holds a surprising amount of charms in the summer months. Check out these attractions and accommodations for a fabulous romantic weekend getaway for two.
- The House on the Rock Resort -- Make this your home base for the weekend. The Frank Lloyd Wright styled lodge is nestled in a green valley between bluffs. Enjoy the views of the golf course right out your windows. The resort offers a fitness center, indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpools, lighted tennis courts, sand volleyball, and acres of walking and hiking trails in the lush surroundings.
- Golf -- Right outside your door surrounding the resort is 27 holes of chamionship golf. Choose from the Springs Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., or the North Nine, designed by Roger Packard and Andy North. Golf packages are available to purchase with your lodging.
- The House on the Rock -- The resort is named for this attraction, one of the quirkiest in Wisconsin. It starts off with the tour of an amazing home perched precariously on a high outcropping of rock, and leads into a maze of museums like nothing you have ever seen before. Listen to full orchestras playing music by automation, watch out for the 200-foot sea creature, follow the workings of a giant Rube Goldberg contraption, and see the world's largest carousel. And this is only a fraction of what awaits you here.
- Taliesin -- Come visit where Frank Lloyd Wright worked and lived. Get a tour of the building and see where he put his ideas to work, gaze out the windows and see what he saw in nature that so inspired him. Tours are a summer event and reservations are strongly recommended.
- American Players Theater -- Catch a daytime or evening Shakespearean play by nationally renowned players. Walk up the hill to a secluded outdoor setting where you can enjoy a comedy or dark drama under the stars. The plays change every year, check their schedule to see what best suits you.
- Arthur's Supper Club -- Have dinner one night at a Spring Green Institution, Arthur's Supper Club. "Supper Clubs" are a Wisconsin term connoting a somewhat upscale but comfortable restaurant for dinner. Arthur's has been in Spring Green since 1966 and specializes in steaks and seafood.
- Riverview Terrace Cafe -- Once an upscale restaurant, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed cafe is part of the Visitor's Center and is a great spot for lunch. The structure is perched on a hillside and overlooks the Wisconsin River.
