Mexican Fiesta is a celebration of the Mexican culture, food and music on the Summerfest Grounds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from August 22 - 24, 2008.

Mexican Fiesta brightens the Milwaukee lake front on August 22 - 24, 2008 at the Summerfest Grounds, Henry W. Meier Festival Park. Mexican culture is celebrated with three days of food, fun, Mariachi and fiesta. Hispanic heritage is showcased in this family oriented festival. Mexican Fiesta International encourages individuals from all ethnic backgrounds to share in the beauty of Mexico's rich history, culture, art, music and food. Mexican Fiesta is the largest Hispanic festival with paid admission in the Midwest.

Mexican Fiesta is a festival filled with gaiety, music, colorful art, food and the enjoyment of the social gathering on the lake front. Following are some of the highlights of the fiesta.

Special Events

  • "Gran Charriada" (Mexican Style Rodeo). The rodeo includes special performances by Escaramuza "Rayo de Esperanza" Illinois Champions and Escamilla Entertainment.
  • Cultural Village will host poet Jose E. Grijalva - Ironworker Poet Mariachi Engineer, who will recite poetry from his publication "Vivencias Reflejadas."
  • Exhibition of Alebrijes, a brightly colored Mexican Folk Art sculpture presented by Jacobo Dominguez.

Music

Performers on the music stages include La Arrollodora, Los Primos De Durango, El Chapo de Sinoloa, El Poder del Norte Tropicana, La Sonora, Las Altenas, Alejandra Orozco, Los Bad Boys del Valle, La Tropa F, Big Circo, Jimmy Edward, Sunny Ozuna and Agustin Ramirez, Los Texmaniacs and Patrones de Jalisco.

Tequila Expo

Join Mexican Fiesta is discovering the mystique of the blue agzve. Tequila, the drink that made Mexico famous, was once called the best medicine for the flu. Tequila Expo explores the history, taste and presentation of Tequila during the Tequila Exposition.

Tequila is an alcoholic beverage made in the highland of central Mexico from the fermented and distilled sap of the agave. Archaeologists believe that the agave has been cultivated for at least 9,000 years. The Conquistadors distilled a native drink into a stronger spirit, making the first tequila. In the 400 years since, tequila has become an icon of Mexican nationality, pride and culture. Most tequila is mad in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.

Cultural Village

Visit the Mexican Plaza, with beautiful arches surrounding every shop. A water fountain in the center of the village, creates a plaza like ambiance. Beautiful handcrafted artisan pieces are brought to Milwaukee directly from Mexico.

Sunday Mass

The Mass Procession will begin at 10 am followed by mass at the Marcus Amphitheater. Presiding at the mass will be Most Rev. Daniel Flores Auxiliary Bishop of Detroit Archdiocese.

Admission: Adults $12, Children Under 10 Free

Special Admission

  • Friday, August 22 Free Admission Noon 12 am for the general public.
  • Saturday, August 23 Free Admission Noon to 1 pm for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
  • Sunday, August 24 Reduced Festival Admission for all Mexican Fiesta Mass Attendees Noon to 12:00 am $5.
  • Sunday, August 24 Free Admission from noon to 1:00 pm for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
