Kalahari Water Park in the Wisconsin Dells has one of the biggest and best indoor water activity areas in the city known as the Water Park Capital of the World.

Kalahari Water Park Resort in Wisconsin Dells is an African-themed vacationland with the largest single water park play area under one roof. This is definitely one of its best attributes. Just park your belongings on a set of lounge chairs and you can spend all day wandering from one activity to another.

While the water temperature in the different areas of the park varies, the air temperature is warm all around. Participants have no worries of catching a chill by spending all day in their wet swimsuits.

Best Water Slides and Rides for the Family

Kalahari has a number of water slides and tube rides that are great for even the most timid kids in your family. Small water slides dot the park and provide plenty of fun for the youngest children, while longer and larger green and yellow slides in the fort area are fun but still mild enough for kids from about age 4 to 10.

The lazy river and wave pool are perfect for any age and are large enough to provide space for all who choose to share in the fun. Two family raft rides are tame enough to take the little ones on: Victoria Falls and the Ripplin' Rhino. Both are neither too steep nor too fast to be scary yet still provide a lot of fun. Both also end in the pool at the bottom with a coasting motion with no possibility of being dumped into the drink, which makes it secure for parents with small tots. Two to three riders are required on each raft ride. Victoria Falls does have about eight seconds of darkness and semi-darkness right at the beginning, which is something to take into consideration for the more timid riders.

The surf area is geared more toward the older crowd but some of the lifeguards are very good at getting on a boogie board with young children and giving them a wet yet safe ride.

Kalahari's More Challenging Rides

One water slide and one tube ride are completely dark and best suited toward the braver park goers. The Pro Bowl starts out with a fast, dark body slide but turns into a bright, giant toilet-bowl shaped funnel at the bottom, where the slider whips around the inside a few times before being "flushed" through the funnel at the bottom and into a deep 9 foot 6 inch pool. This slide is for strong swimmers only. The Master Blaster is another ride for the braver participants. It is part water raft ride and part roller coaster as it thrusts you up and down hills at great speeds.

Kalahari Indoor Water Park Overall

Kalahari is a favorite in the Dells for good reason. Its large size, everything-in-one-place park with rides and slides for all skill levels makes it a crowd pleaser. A large outdoor water park area adds to the fun in the summer. While there is an arcade and ping pong tables, the complex could benefit from a dry indoor play area. Shops, restaurants, a spa, a pottery place, and even exotic animals make this a place that has so much to offer you can spend your entire vacation within its walls.

Kalahari Update: Construction News

Kalahari is listening. An indoor play area is now planned for the park. The addition with feature a 110,000-square-foot entertainment complex, with a Ferris wheel, laser tag, a ropes course, go-carts, bowling, mini-golf, a carousel, and arcade games. The $15 million family entertainment center, slated to open in December 2008, will connect the 742-room water park resort and convention center to Damon's Grill restaurant and the 15-screen Desert Cinema via indoor walkways.
