Lake Geneva is a premiere destination, popular with people who travel from the Chicago area. There are Christmas holiday festivities and lights all season long.

Lake Geneva is a popular getaway destination, especially during the summer months. The scenic town is a great getaway for visitors from the Chicago, Illinois area because it is just a short drive from the city and offers a ambiance that is at once quaint and sophisticated. During the Christmas season, Lake Geneva is festively decorated and has seasonal events adding to its charm. Following are some of the highlights of the holiday season in Lake Geneva in southeastern Wisconsin.

Weekend of Holiday Celebrations - Festival of Lights

On December 5-7, downtown Lake Geneva comes alive with lights and decorations with the official start of the holiday season. There is a parade, tree lighting ceremony, live entertainment, Father Christmas and the reindeer. Retails shops and restaurants will hold festive activities throughout the town.

33rd Annual Great Electric Children's Christmas Parade

The 33rd annual Great Electric Children's Christmas Parade takes place on December 6 at 5 pm in downtown Lake Geneva.

13th Annual Christmas in the Country at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa

Grand Geneva Resort decorates their grounds with light displays and animated characters. The free light show is a drive through display that leads to the doors of the lodge. Take a drive through the grounds from November 23 through December 30 to enjoy the spectacle of a half million lights illuminating the resort's 1,300 acres.

Grand Geneva also hold holiday festivities inside the resort, including mechanical holiday displays, daily holiday teas, gingerbread house building contests and Breakfast with Santa.

A Broadway style musical extravaganza called Hooray for Holidays! features a live band, spectacular costumes and creative choreography at Evergreen Theatre.

Christmas with a Twist: A Comedy in Several Pieces

The Lake Geneva Theatre Company presents a holiday show at The Abbey Resort. The evening consists of three modern, comic one-act plays; Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris, Christmas Breaks by Patrick Gabridge and Not a Creature was Stirring by Christopher Durang. The play is held on December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19 20 and 21. General admission is $25. 1-262-325-4753.

East Troy Electric Railroad's Christmas Express

Santa and his jolly elves ride the East Troy Holiday Train from nearby Mukwonago, departing from The Elegant Farmer at 1545 Main St. The holiday train is a 45 minute ride through the countryside that departs from Mukwonago at 11 am, noon, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 pm. The rides delights children as they get to visit with Santa Claus and see the winter wonderland of the countryside as the train powers through the country. Tickets are $12 adults, $7 children (3-11) and free for children under 3.
