Enjoy 18 holes of golf at Coldwater Canyon across from Chula Vista Water Park and Resort.

Directions: Take Interstate 90/94 to exit 87 at Highway 13. Follow highway 13 through the Dells, over the bridge, and all the way through the bustling downtown. Highway 13 will turn left; follow it and look for the golf course and sign on your left to reach Chula Vista's Coldwater Canyon. The address is 4052 River Road in Wisconsin Dells OR 1000 Chula Vista Parkway North.

Rates: For 2007, summer rates (through September 16) are $38 for 9 holes and $67 for 18 holes Friday through Sunday, or $33 for 9 holes and $58 for 18 holes Monday through Thursday. Price includes a cart. Twilight rates after 3 p.m. are $35 for weekends and $30 for weeknights. After September 16th, prices are $10 to $18 cheaper depending on the day and number of holes. Junior rates are $17 for kids 12 and under and $25 for ages 13 to 18.

Course: From the black tees, the course rating and slope is 66.5/113 with a par of 69. The course is mostly short and tight, and the front nine and back nine are distinctly different. The front nine have been around for generations, and the back nine are new and designed in the links style. The front nine has short roughs, which is welcome on a resort course to help speed play when there are more inexperienced duffers on the course. Greens are small and trees line many of the holes. Keep an eye out for wildlife. Holes 1, 2 and 9 are on one side of River Road, and holes 3 through 8 wind back through the trees toward the river. Hole number 3 is particularly interesting with its undulating, hilly fairway.

Between the first two nines is a little grill called The Turn tucked behind the club house, selling burgers, hot dogs, drinks, and chips. The second nine has golf villas alongside the first two holes. High, grassy, wind-swept mounds line the second nine with sand traps dotted liberally throughout. Expect to find yourself in at least one bunker over the course of 18 holes. Currently, construction is ongoing on the course so the play may be a bit noisy, along with the older gas-powered style golf carts. The 18th hole is the longest on the course and the only par 5 on the back nine, at 511 yards from the black tees.
