What are the biggest and best resorts for water park fun in the city known as the Waterpark Capital of the World?

Wisconsin Dells has drawn its income from tourists since people first began to come here and realize the beauty of the rock formations along the Wisconsin River. Nowadays travelers still flock here, but it is for a different kind of water attraction. Wisconsin Dells is the Waterpark Capital of the World, with America's largest water park at Noah's Ark (all outdoors and without an attached resort) to holding bragging rights to the first indoor waterpark. Now indoor and outdoor waterparks abound across this resort community in South Central Wisconsin. Here are the Top Five resorts, in no particular order:

  • Kalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center - Here you will find the largest indoor water park under one roof. The 125,000 square-foot facility offers a wave pool, the nation's longest indoor lazy river, a simulated surfing experience, a giant children's fort with water shooters and rides, and a water roller coaster that goes both down and up hill! These are just a few of the attractions at this African-themed resort. The outdoor water park, available during the summer, has slides, tube rides, a lazy river, and activity pools. Enjoy the Spa Kalahari or golf at the beautiful Trappers Turn course located nearby. A variety of restaurants and room types fill the needs of the whole family. Kalahari is located at 1305 Kalahari Drive, in the Wisconsin Dells. Call 1-877-525-2427 for reservations.
  • Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort - America's Largest Waterpark Resort boasts America's Largest Indoor Wave Pool. But bring your sunscreen! The see-through roof allows you to get a tan while you ride the waves. Three separate indoor water parks spread the fun out at the Wilderness. Other than the great wave pool, Klondike Kavern includes tube slides, a lazy river, and kids' play areas, while the Wild West Waterpark features water falls, water slides, and a family raft ride. The Hurricane, the Dells' tallest family raft ride, and the Cannonbowl, where a tube shoots you through a giant funnel, are also available year round. An outdoor water park is available for the summer, as is golfing at Wilderness Woods and Wild Rock Golf Clubs. For adults, enjoy some time at the Sundara Spa and have dinner at the elegant Field's restaurant. The Wilderness is located at 511 East Adams Street in the Wisconsin Dells. Call 1-800-867-9453 for reservations.
  • Great Wolf Lodge - This Northwoods-themed resort includes three interconnected indoor waterpark areas with body slides, tube slides, a wave pool, a lazy river, a four-story tree house, and acitivty pools. There are a lot of features for the younger water park enthusiast, from tots to those under the 48" mark. For bigger kid fun, try the Howlin' Tornado, a six-story family tube ride. An outdoor water park is available in the summer. Or stay dry by participating in the interactive video game known as Wiley's Woods, where YOU are the main character. Don't miss the Great Clock Tower shows, occurring three times daily in the lobby. Send dad and the kids to the waterpark one day while you escape to the Cameo Spa. Restaurants range from northwoods-themed dining or a snack bar. Great Wolf is located at 1400 Great Wolf Drive in the Wisconsin Dells. Call 1-800-559-WOLF (9653) for reservations.
  • Chula Vista Resort - A $200-million renovation brings Chula Vista into competition with the other big boys in the Dells. The Lost Rios indoor waterpark has racing slides, a giant rain forest, and Myan Temple kids play area. The Flyan Myan Zip Coaster high overhead is the world's fastest and longest indoor water coaster. In the summer enjoy the outdoor water park and mini golf too. During the day head to the Spa del Sol, or at night experience a live entertainment show with a 50s theme. Enjoy a variety of different room accommodations with the best views in the Dells, as the resort is nestled into the woods and along the beautiful Wisconsin River. Chula Vista is located at 4031 River Road in the Wisconsin Dells. Call 1-800-388-4782 for reservations.
  • Mount Olympus Water and Theme Park - This park has a giant amount of park amenities on the property, but a smaller-sized hotel area. As the biggest water and theme park in the Dells, there are both indoor and outdoor water parks and indoor and outdoor theme parks. The indoor amenities are smaller than the outdoor amenities, so this park achieves its fullest potential during summer months. The indoor waterpark, Bay of Dreams, includes a children's ship with slides and play area, a lazy river, body slides and tube slides. The outdoor area includes 37 more slides, kids' areas and a lazy river, a wave pool, and more. Bumper boats and mini golf are also outdoors. The indoor theme park, in a building resembling the Pantheon, has an adult roller coaster and kid-sized rides, such as teacups and a swinging trolley car. A playground is also inside. The outdoor theme park has six roller coasters, including one that plunges underground. Kid and adult-size race car tracks, a kids' train ride and airplane ride and more are found on the grounds. Mount Olympus is located at 1887 Wisconsin Dells Parkway in the Wisconsin Dells. Call 1-800-800-4997 for reservations.
